libusb offers a way to access usb devices from the user space.

Untar the package at .../devboard*/libs/
Add "libs/libusb-0.1.7 -r R0_1_7" to the makespec file

Don't forget to enable USB and USBDEVFS in the kernel.
Don't forget to mount the usbdevfs : mount -t usbdevfs none /proc/bus/usb/

Use 'tar xvzf filename' to unpack the .tgz/.tar.gz files.
