Developer Board Software FAQ

Q - I have assigned an IP address to my developer board using arp-ping and I know it worked but now I cannot connect to my board anymore.
A - After setting the IP address temporarily (using arp-ping) you must make it permanent (see the 'Getting Started Guide'). Otherwise the settings will be lost when you turn off the power or reset the board.

Q - I have assigned an IP address permanently and rebooted my board but now I cannot connect to my board.
A - You most probably have made changes to the network settings that do not match your local network. If, for example, the NETWORK setting in /etc/network/network.conf is not the address to your local net, the board will not have any route to the local net and will therefore be unreachable. There are two ways of solving this problem:

  1. On the developer board you can login from a serial port and change the network settings, see the 'Getting Started Guide'. This is possible if you get a login prompt at the end of the output that is written to the debug port at boot.
  2. If you do not get a login prompt you must make a factory default: keep the test button pressed while booting the board. (If you watch the output on the debug port you will see when it happens.) Then you can start all over with arp-ping.
