Software Distribution
The software distribution includes the source code of the Linux kernel and various applications and libraries. The applications and libraries page lists the included applications and libraries.
Historically, each product has had its own software distribution but since the Developer Board/Device Server release 2.00 (released March 31st, 2005) all products use a single unified software distribution. Unfortunately the version numbers have been unwisely selected which could be somewhat confusing. See the release history page for more information. The older distributions can be found under the old software section.
The unified Developer Board/Device Server release consists
of an install package and several distributed packages, i.e.,
the Linux kernel, applications and libraries. During the
install process Internet access is required to obtain the
distributed packages. However, each release since 2.01 has a devboard-R<version number>-distfiles.tar.gz file including all the distributed packages that the install procedure may need. This file can be downloaded and used locally which makes the install procedure independent of an Internet connection. Read more about the install procedure in the install howto.
